Ikenson exposes the important of the technologies to development of our society over time and gives insight into the development of each one.

This is an interesting and different way to present technology using the patents that are issued from ideas alongside some tidbits of inventor background, history, technical explanation and commentary on significance.

This book is also very pictorial and makes for a fascinating read, as the inventor's patent diagrams are used along with various photos of models and other diagrams to present each invention.
